SILVER STAR

The Silver Star Silver_Star

Next (higher) medal: Medal of Honor
Next (lower) medal: Bronze Star

DESCRIPTION:
The Silver Star is awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity with the 101st, shows verifiable and outstanding gallantry against an enemy of the 101st not justifying the Medal of Honor and involving one of the following actions:

* In action against an enemy of the 101st in which a person takes an overwhelming risk to military strength or readiness.
* While engaged in military operations involving conflict with a superior opposing foreign force for the overall strategic good of the 101st Airborne.
* While serving in coordinated and lengthy (costly) strikes with friendly foreign forces against multiple, or powerful single, targets.

The Silver Star is the second highest award of the 101st Airborne Division and is given by Senior Leadership of the 101st Airborne.
